When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.

And king Herod hearing this, was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.
When King Herod heard about this, it upset him as well as everyone else in Jerusalem.
When King Herod heard what the men said, he was very upset. All the people in Jerusalem were afraid too.
When King Herod heard this, he was alarmed, and all Jerusalem with him.

When King Herod heard about this he was deeply perturbed, as indeed were all the other people living in Jerusalem. So he summoned all the Jewish scribes and chief priests together and asked where “Christ” should be born. Their reply was: “In Bethlehem, in Judea, for this is what the prophet (Micah) wrote about the matter—‘But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are not the least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you shall come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel’.”

When word of their inquiry got to Herod, he was terrified—and not Herod alone, but most of Jerusalem as well. Herod lost no time. He gathered all the high priests and religion scholars in the city together and asked, “Where is the Messiah supposed to be born?”

When King Herod and all Jerusalem heard about this, they became disturbed.

On hearing about their inquiry, King Herod was greatly troubled, as was true of the whole of Jerusalem.

King Herod began to hear rumors of the wise men’s quest, and he, and all of his followers in Jerusalem, were worried.
